Welcome to the second week.

Second week is all about ellipses and curves.  On first side of the sheet you will do ellipses. The best way how to train all of them is to start with the narrow one and slowly drawing wider and wider ones. Try too fill the whole page with them. Always do a base line on which all the ellipses will be sitting by those minor axis. Be careful about the symmetry. When I draw an ellipse, I place my hand in a parallel way to the minor axis of the ellipse and do a curve to the left and than to the right. Keeping a symmetry of the ellipse in mind.

Second side of the paper will be about curves. You start with choosing three points that are not parallel to each other. Than try to connect them with smooth curve that has increasing or decreasing curvature. Do not do an L shapes. The aim is to produce a nice smooth curves.

Recommended number of practise sheets : 20x A3 (cardesigner at least 50x)

Week 1

SIDE A+B

Exercise - Side A+B

Welcome to the first week.

First lesson is about getting your arm ready. Freehand straight line is essential basic skill. More you practise it more you will notice how your brain is getting connected with your arm and eyes. Be patient, do it Sow and think!

TECHNIQUE:

Arm is not anchored on the table. Both shoulder and elbow joints are working synchronized. Paper is twisted into the most suitable position. Line is kept with constant weight.

Recommended number of practise sheets : 20x A3 (cardesigner at least 50x) - do both sides (we do care about our environment)

Welcome !!!

This page is created primary for students in the first grade of our industrial design department were I am doing my sketching workshop. It's purpose is educational and is considered as an additional information to my sketching classes.

But everyone with ambition to get a decent sketching skill is more than welcome.

There are a few things to remember:

1) Talent is soo overestimated in this industry. You need to work on your skill daily to see the progress.
2) Think !!! You need to think to find the ways, how to improve.
3) Be patient, it does not come over night
4) Be courageous
5) If your aim is primarily automotive design double the effort.

Good luck in your progress.
